My father grew up in Westcliff near Southend and often like to visit places where he has fond memories when he was young. During half term he asked me wheather I and my family would like to join him for a walk from Leigh on Sea to Benfleet along the sea wall and then take the train back. Claiming it was only 3 miles I agreed as both myself and my children could with a good march to stretch the legs. Problems on the M25 caused us to be almost two hours late by which time I was stressed. However being late allowed for better light for photographs. I have photographed Hadleigh castle many times and is a favoured location for me. From the sea wall however, the castle is quite a distance so it wasn't really ideal. The sun and clouds were casting great shadows on the landscape so it was worth a punt in puting the zoom on the camera and see what I could capture. As we on a walk with my father there was not really time to set up tripods. Facing the other way was also interesting however the low sun from the south west made taking pictures of the creeks between the islands some what difficult. After a final hurdle of passing some cows in our path and with tied legs we reach Benfleet and took the train back to the tune of my daughter demanding Steak at a pub. I was certainly needing a pint. I learnt one thing from this little trip, dont trust my dad when it comes to measurements on maps. On returning home I measured the walk at 4 and half miles, not suprising my legs were tired.
